Academic Pediatric Surgeon and Pediatric Trauma Program Medical Director

 

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis Children’s Hospital located in Sacramento, California seeks to recruit a full-time academic pediatric surgeon at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Clinical X or In-Residence series depending on experience and qualifications. UC Davis Medical Center is the leading referral center in Northern California for the most seriously injured or ill patients and the most medically complex cases, covering 33 counties, more than 65,000 square miles and 6 million residents. It operates inland Northern California's only level I trauma center with comprehensive adult and pediatric emergency departments. In addition, UC Davis Children’s Hospital is a founding member of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) and is a leading participant in a number of multicenter clinical trials in pediatric trauma.

 

The successful candidates must have a demonstrated interest in pediatric trauma with or without formal critical care training. The selected candidate will have responsibilities on the pediatric surgery service which include general pediatric, colorectal, thoracic, trauma and fetal surgical specialties at the University of California Davis Health, Children’s Hospital, and Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Northern California. The selected candidate will be expected to serve as the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director and run that program in partnership with the Chief of Trauma and the Chief of Pediatric Surgery. The selected candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching, clinical care, both inpatient and outpatient, in addition to research relating to pediatric and trauma surgery. Our pediatric surgery division uses an interactive group practice model. The complexity of our case mix provides diverse experience for everyone in our practice. Dependent upon the academic series, the individual will be expected to develop a research focus in pediatric trauma, or equivalent academic endeavor.

 

Basic Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Doctorate, have graduated from an ACGME accredited pediatric surgery residency program, have completed an approved pediatric surgical fellowship and be board certified or eligible in general surgery and pediatric surgery. A strong commitment to patient care, medical student and resident education and research/scholarly activity is necessary. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is also required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated clinical teaching and health services research skills, and experience in minimally invasive pediatric surgery, trauma, and critical care.

 

Additional Qualifications:
Candidates must acquire a CA Medical License, and California Fluoroscopy Supervisor and Operator’s permit before the appointment start date.

 

Salary and level of appointment will be based upon experience and qualifications.
