Asian University for Women is an independent internationally funded liberal arts and sciences university, dedicated to the education and leadership development of women from across South and South East Asia and the Middle East.  With 800 students from 15 countries, the University is poised to rapidly grow in the next few years and establish itself as a leading center of excellence. The University now seeks a Dean of Sciences to co-envision with the University’s Vice Chancellor and the Board of Trustees and to lead the creation of a new science initiative that will strengthen its core math and science teaching, and introduce a range of other science and engineering programs over time, that are responsive to the needs of the region and draw on the comparative advantages of a regional women’s university. In addition to the current programs in Public Health and Environmental Sciences, new programs in computer sciences, life sciences and environmental engineering are tentatively envisioned. A new physical facility is being contemplated to house the Sciences at AUW.


AUW seeks a person of established high caliber with abundant energy who has a demonstrable record of successfully building new academic programs and organizing people and resources to deliver success.  The person must be able to systematically recruit and build a new and highly qualified and talented faculty team from the Asian diaspora and elsewhere.  The position also involves teaching half-time.



  • A PhD in a relevant discipline; Professor rank;
  • Record of successful higher education administration, teaching and research experience;
  • Experience with new program development and review processes;
  • History of recruiting, mentoring, and retaining a diverse faculty and student body;
  • Fiscal and budget experience that demonstrates an understanding of finance and budget issues and restraints;
  • Proven ability to inspire trust and build relationships across disciplines;
  • Track record of success in the development and implementation of interdisciplinary programs;
  • Exemplary communication skills and the ability to form strong relationships and partnerships with various internal and external constituencies.
