Macquarie is a university engaged with the real and often complex problems and opportunities that define our lives.

Since our foundation 54 years ago, we have aspired to be a different type of university: one unbound by ivory towers and sandstone walls. Rather, we are focused on fostering collaboration between students, academics, industry and society, encouraging all to traverse the boundaries of their own perspective and affect change.

Over the years, we’ve grown to become the centre of a vibrant local and global community. A place of constant stimulus and human interaction.

Together, we advance world-class theoretical thinking and translate it into real-world solutions. We’re connecting people across the most diverse fields of knowledge to create bold new possibilities: for their careers, intellectual endeavours, enterprises and the common good.

At Macquarie, people become skilled at switching between specialist and generalist mindsets; mastering complexity, thinking holistically and helping to create a better future.

In Macquarie's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences you'll join leading researchers, passionate educators and internationally respected clinicians, united in a mission towards delivering the best patient care.  Home to the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) and Australia's first fully integrated academic health sciences centre, we are a place of bold discoveries and distinctive educational programs that embolden the future leaders of healthcare.

Within AIHI, The Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science (CHRIS) has a successful track record of undertaking research and evaluation projects on health sector issues since 1991. Its core interest is to investigate issues of policy, governance and leadership in the health sector. It is involved in conducting original research into clinical governance issues, providing a scholarly capability by which to evaluate health sector policies, programs and projects, and contributing to undergraduate medical, postgraduate health services management, and public health and doctoral education.

The Role

In partnership with the Melanoma Institute, Australia and the NHMRC-funded Centre for Clinical Excellence in Melanoma (CRE Melanoma), The Australian Institute for Health Innovation (AIHI) is seeking a Research Fellow, with a strong track-record to contribute to collaborative research projects with members of the CRE Melanoma on the implementation of melanoma services across Australian healthcare organisations.

Within the Implementation Science Stream at CHRIS, AIHI, the incumbent will be working closely with the Professor of Health Implementation Science and under the Directorship of the Founding Director of AIHI, with key project collaborators at The Melanoma Institute Australia and other melanoma research centres across the country. The incumbent will be expected to attend melanoma team meetings and will lead research examining implementation processes and outputs with CRE colleagues while helping to develop strong implementation strategies across melanoma studies.

The successful candidate will preferably have experience working in oncology or with oncology research data and will have a background in mixed-methods research within a health-related field e.g. health services, research medicine, medical humanities, medical anthropology, medical sociology or psychology. The candidate should have knowledge and understanding of implementation science, as well as an understanding of the principles belying the implementation of research evidence into clinical practice, with some experience of designing an implementation study.

Using implementation science’s theoretical frameworks, the incumbent will liaise with participating flagship organisations to undertake a wide range of research, that may include, but will not be limited to, designing qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis, coding and reviewing mixed datasets, literature searching, service planning and process mapping and writing-up study outputs, clarifying working patterns in melanoma services, examining different service implementations, and co-designing new interventions with relevant stakeholders. The successful candidate will need to be able to write study reports, manage complex datasets and clearly explain work in progress and work completed to other members of the CRE and to external mixed stakeholder groups.
