Degree of Masters by Research in pancreatic cancer research

Cancer Research at UCC is a multidisciplinary research centre based at the Western Gateway Building situated on the campus of University College Cork. Arising from a recent successful grant proposal we are now seeking applications for a 2-year full time vacancy leading to a degree of Masters by Research.


Background: Applications are invited for a highly motivated and talented student to conduct a research project leading to a degree of Masters by Research. The project is part of an expanding research program in pancreatic cancer. The project will focus on cellular and molecular methods to evaluate the responsivity of cancer treatments and making therapy more effective for pancreatic cancer.



  • We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a minimum 2.1H or equivalent, BSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology or related fields. Previous research experience desirable.
  • The candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, or as part of a team, to a managed schedule.
  • Excellent analytical skills, report and technical writing, and computer skills with evidence of organisational and communication skills
  • Good communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated interest in the topic.
  • Although the main focus of this studentship is research it is encouraged to engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • To critically appraise the identified literature and provide a systematic review.
  • To engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of Dr P Forde.
  • To carry out additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Student stipend will be €18,000 per annum. EU fees are covered (Non-EU members may apply but they will need to cover extra fees themselves).
