Personal Professor in Systems Biomedicine

Applications are invited for the post of Personal Professor in Systems Biomedicine, at NUI, Galway, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary research in the area of systems biomedicine. This is a joint appointment between the School of Natural Sciences and the School of Medicine.


This is a senior appointment and the successful candidate will provide dynamic research leadership in the area of systems biomedicine as well as wider academic leadership. Candidates should have a strong commitment to research and to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.


The appointee is expected to establish a research programme applying mechanistic computational modelling to medicine, especially for understanding gastrointestinal and neurodegenerative diseases and to improve our understanding of how diet, xenobiotics, and the microbiome influence human health. Candidates for this post should have a PhD and high-level international research experience in systems biomedicine, particularly in developing and applying computational models of metabolism. Candidates are expected to outline how their research and teaching interests aligns with existing research within the Schools of Natural Sciences and Medicine. Successful applicants will have a strong track record of peer-reviewed publication and a demonstrated capacity to compete for external national and international research funding.

Appointments at Personal level
€128,677 p.a


(This appointment will be made in line with current Government pay policy)
