Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Pharmacology and Biochemistry

Grade 7: £31,076 - £38,833 p.a.

Reporting to Professor Fran Platt, the postholder is a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research for mouse models of Lysosomal Storage Disorders. The postholder provides guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students.


The postholder will be expected to manage their own academic research and administrative activities, including small scale project management and co-ordination of multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will be required to adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols; test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate; and contribute ideas for new research projects. You will act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques, represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone and carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.


You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, have experience with mouse models and currently hold a personal licence (PIL). In addition, you should possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes and have previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings are also essential.


The post is fixed-term for 2 years, funded by a grant from Orphazyme and is available immediately.
