Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Vitro Assays and Image Analysis (maternity cover)

The Szele laboratory in DPAG is collaborating with the Russell group in the Department of Chemistry to screen a library of small compounds for increasing adult neurogenesis. The postholder will be part of a team funded by OxStem Neuro, with access to an expanding community of researchers with similar goals, strategies and techniques.


We are seeking someone to carry out in vitro screening assays, using both subventricular zone and dentate gyrus neurosphere assays. Liaising with OxStem colleagues, the postholder will choose the batches of compounds to be tested. The postholder will have significant experience in image acquisition and image analysis. They will also help develop high-throughput assays to further enhance the capacity for screening and experience in this domain will be a plus.


The successful applicant will contribute intellectually to the development of the project, Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadline and contribute ideas for new research projects. They will develop ideas for generating research income and demonstrate initiative and contribute to tasks helpful to the smooth running of OxStem Neuro.


The applicant will hold a PhD in developmental neurobiology. They will have expertise in molecular biology techniques in primary neural cell cultures, and preferably in postnatal and adult mammalian neurogenesis. They will have experience in or demonstrate interest in growing and maintaining human induced pluripotential stem cells.


The work will be based in the Le Gros Clark Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QX. The position is a maternity cover and fixed-term until 30 May 2019.
