Research Assistant in Muscular Dystropy Type 1

Grade 6: £28,098 - £33,518 p.a.

Applications are invited for an experienced and enthusiastic Research Assistant to join Professor Matthew Wood’s laboratory and undertake a preclinical project utilising peptide delivered oligonucleotides for the therapeutic treatment of Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1).


The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day execution of the project, in particular animal experiments, optimising new experimental protocols and analysing results. You will be familiar with standard molecular biology techniques mostly involving processing and analysing animal tissue. You will manage research activities under the guidance of senior colleagues, contributing to wider project planning and determining the most appropriate experimental methodologies. You will also collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and the presentation of papers.


You must hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant area of research. You will need to demonstrate having experience in animal handling and colony management, with expertise in drug administration and assessment of motor phenotype testing desirable. The applicant must have previous experience in standard molecular and cellular biology techniques, including, but not limited to, RNA and protein expression analysis. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.


You will be based in the Le Gros Clark Building in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford. The position is funded by MRC.
