Salary: $50,000 plus Plan C extended benefits         


The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Aging and Knowledge Translation. This Postdoctoral Scholar will be supervised by Dr. Joon Lee, an Associate Professor of Big Data Science with a joint appointment with the Department of Community Health Sciences and the Department of Cardiac Sciences. This position is funded by AGE-WELL, a pan-Canadian network of industry, non-profit organizations, government, care providers, end users, and academic partners working together using high-quality research to drive innovation and create technologies and services that benefit older adults and caregivers.


Job Description:

This Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to:

  • Design and conduct knowledge translation activities around mHealth and other health data science products geared towards aging applications

  • Design and conduct aging research projects

  • Publish research findings in top journals and conference proceedings

  • Assist Dr. Joon Lee with grant writing

  • Assist Dr. Joon Lee with undergraduate and graduate student supervision

  • Be responsible for some administrative tasks related to research operations



The ideal candidate must have a PhD in a health field. In addition, the ideal candidate should be well versed and experienced in all of the following:

  • Knowledge translation

  • Health research related to aging, including interactions with older adults, caregivers, health care providers, and/or health policy makers

  • Qualitative research involving interviews, focus groups, surveys, etc.

  • Peer-reviewed publication


Expertise in the areas above is best demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and prior knowledge translation activities. The ideal candidate should also have excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.


Prior exposure to some or all of the following would be an asset:

  • mHealth

  • Machine learning

  • Artificial intelligence

  • Health data science

  • Biostatistics

  • Commercialization
