Position Description

The Faculty of Nursing is seeking Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach undergraduate-level courses for the Fall Semester 2018 and Winter Semester 2019 as follows:

September 1 - December 31, 2018

  • TERM 3 NURS 289 - Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices I


  • TERM 5 NURS 489 - Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices III


  • TERM 7 NURS 499 - Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices V: Child/Youth, Older Adult, Oncology.

January 1 - April 30, 2019

  • TERM 3 NURS 289 - Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices I


  • TERM 4 NURS 389 - Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices II


  • TERM 6 NURS 499 - Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices IV


We are seeking applicants with nursing practice in the acute care and assisted living/community environments, particularly those with previous nursing education practice experience.  Practice education takes place both on and off campus.  Scheduling varies and may include a combination of days and evening shifts, Monday through Friday.


The successful applicants are required to be available during that entire period(s). Sessional Instructors are provided with exceptional orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B.  Please see the Faculty Association’s website for further information regarding conditions of employment and remuneration.


Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate low to high-fidelity simulation activities within the Clinical Simulation Learning Centre

  • Work effectively with small groups of students on-campus or in off campus settings in the assisted living/community or acute care

  • Participate in team meetings related to the practice course and faculty governance

  • Participate in student assessment and evaluations on and off campus

  • Seek excellence in teaching by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues

  • Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence informed practice



Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. A Master’s degree is normally required and preferred, although candidates with BN/BScN preparation will be considered.


Applied Experience:  

  • Current practice experience related to semester focus

  • Broad experience across a variety of areas

  • Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students

Enhanced Abilities:   

  • Application of adult teaching/learning principles

  • Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation

  • Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals

  • Teamwork and leadership skills

  • Evaluation and promotions of student problem solving and critical thinking

  • Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback

  • Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of varied settings

  • Computer skills in word processing, email and internet access
