Head of medical oncology of the Istituto Oncologico della Svizzera italiana (IOSI)

Full Professor of Oncology at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI)


The successful applicant will hold the positions of:

-       Head of Medical Oncology, Istituto Oncologico della Svizzera italiana (IOSI) of the Ente Ospedaliero cantonale (EOC), based at the Ospedale Regionale di Bellinzona e Valli.

-       Full Professor (tenure) of Oncology at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Institute of Human Medicine, responsible for the organization of the theoretical and clinical teaching in oncology within the framework of training in Human Medicine.


Essential criteria

-       Post-graduate degree in oncology pursuant to art. 20 and 21 of the Federal Law on University Medical Professions (LPMed). Mebeko recognition is required for foreign qualifications.

-       Preference will be given to applicants with extensive experience in one of the major research areas of the IOSI: prostate cancer, lymphoproliferative disorders and new drug development.

-       Academic qualifications in oncology (Associate or full Professor) in a Swiss or foreign University.

-       Solid and proven clinical and managerial experience in running a hospital department.

-       Solid and proven experience in conducting a research program (basic, translational and/or clinical).

-       Willingness to collaborate with an established team of specialists active in the various fields of oncology and relevant other disciplines, both at the Bellinzona site and in other sites within the EOC, to assist in furthering the development of the specialty and maintaining clinical excellence.

-       Willingness to continue and strengthen the collaboration with general practitioners, practicing specialists and other key stakeholders.

-       Commitment to fostering the academic development of co-workers, ensuring continuity with the existing activities.

-       Commitment to academic teaching, to the development of basic and continuing education in oncology and a marked interest in scientific research.

-       Motivation to collaborate with the members of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) for the definition and implementation of study paths and for the development of research within the Faculty.

-       Adequate knowledge of Italian, English and preferably other national languages.


The successful applicant will be offered:

-       Active participation in the establishment of a new Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of USI.

The commencement date is 1st January 2020, subject to negotiation.
