Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed-term)
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out BBSRC funded studies on understanding the molecular basis and consequences of spaceflight induced alterations to C. elegans muscle. The main duties include independently designing and conducting genetic, pharmacologic, nutritional, and biochemical experiments upon C. elegans. This includes interpreting results, planning and conducting follow on experiments, maintaining cultures and supplies, diagnosing and correcting problems with equipment and procedures, and accurate completion of documentation. The successful candidate will also be expected to train students and participate in outreach and events.
Candidates must have a PhD or evidence of a PhD within one year of taking up the post. Candidates must also be able to self-manage experiments and train others in laboratory techniques.
The ideal candidate will have experience with spaceflight,–omics approaches, microfluidic devices for C. elegans, and liquid cultivation of C. elegans.
This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 22 months. Appointment to a third year may be possible subject to agreement to funding from the UK Space Agency.
This post requires working hours and days as dictated by internationally based experiments (e.g. irregular hours and days will be required). The ideal candidate will be eligible to work in the US (possiblyColorado, Texas, and Florida).
