PhD Researcher Quality of Care KU Leuven Institute for Healthcare Policy Belgium

The researcher is part of the Leuven Institute for Healthcare Policy (LIHP) at KU Leuven. LIHP is a research center focusing on healthcare management and policy of healthcare quality. LIHP aims to perform independent, multidisciplinary, methodological strong research in full cooperation with governments and stakeholders in the healthcare and welfare sector. The next year, LIHP will take an active role in the future policy of healthcare quality. During the past decades, the expansion of the VIP2 initiative, the new Flemish Care Inspectorate and hospital accreditation caused a turnaround. The question is 'how can these initiatives be translated into a maintained quality system with a proven positive impact'? This will be explored through qualitative and quantitative research methods, for the whole group of Flemish acute hospitals, in full cooperation with (inter)national stakeholders and experts.

The PhD researcher will objectively evaluate the quality initiatives (e.g. in the financing of hospitals) which have already been taken and based on this evaluation, develop a scientifically based proposal for future Flemish policy of healthcare quality. A particular focus will be on the impact of the policy of healthcare quality on clinical indicators, patient safety and multidisciplinary collaboration.
We expect the researcher to design and conduct the broad lines of the research process, in collaboration with the promotors, to work autonomously and to provide a scientifically added value. The findings are reported at academic congresses, in academic journals and to the different stakeholders and general public.

  • Works efficient in team and autonomousIy
  • Able to communicate the achieved results orally and in writing fluently in Dutch and English for both a scientific public as well as a general public
