Position Description


The University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) invites applications for two tenure track instructor positions in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. 


The positions will be Instructor (tenure track) and will have 90% of its time focused on teaching and diagnostic service. Teaching will include clinical, didactic, and laboratory teaching of undergraduate students and interns. Developing a residency program is a goal and with that training of residents would also be expected. The fully equipped anatomic pathology services are located on campus and serve to fulfill missions in research and teaching, in addition to serve the broader veterinary community. The service sees approximately 800 cases a year and  sees a diverse number of species.


Qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent) and advanced clinical training in veterinary anatomic pathology, with board certification or eligibility (ACVP, ECVP anatomic). A graduate degree is considered an asset. The applicant must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. 


Appointments at the rank of Instructor requires evidence of successful undergraduate teaching abilities. The duties of an Instructor will normally include, but not go beyond the scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and content in the discipline.


UCVM has approximately 70 faculty members, 130 staff, 125 DVM students, 110 graduate students, 25 post-doctoral fellows, and 15 advanced clinical trainees. UCVM’s DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 30-32 students per year. The program is an integrated core-elective program, with enhanced educational opportunities in defined areas that combine discipline-based courses with extensive on-campus and off-campus experiential learning. UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
