The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Clinical and Neuropsychology, at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA, invites applications for a full time, 12-month, Psychologist position in the Clinician Scientist track at the Assistant Professor level (without tenure) on or around September 1, 2020. Commensurate with experience and qualifications. This faculty member will spend approximately 50% of their time on the Rehabilitation Psychology Consultation Service and approximately 50% of their time on research.  

Harborview Medical Center (HMC) is the only designated Level I adult and pediatric trauma and burn center in the state of Washington and serves as the regional trauma and burn referral center for Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. UW Medicine physicians and other health professionals based at Harborview provide highly specialized services for emergency medicine, orthopedics, neurosciences, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, behavior health, HIV/AIDS, complex critical care and rehabilitation. Harborview also serves as the Disaster Medical Control Center for Seattle/King County. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Harborview among the nation's top hospitals in rehabilitation medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, geriatrics, and sports, spine and orthopedic care. Harborview’s primary mission is to provide healthcare for the most vulnerable residents of King County and to provide and teach exemplary patient care with one of the most diverse patient populations in the Northwest Region of the United States.  

The Rehabilitation Psychology Consultation Service at HMC is a thriving service providing psychological assessments and interventions to patients in nearly every unit of the hospital including Burn, Pediatric, Trauma, Medicine, Neuro and Pulmonary ICUs, and Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Neurology, General Surgery, and Medicine Inpatient Units.  

Job Duties - The selected candidate will: 

  • be expected to work with marginalized and culturally diverse communities and with trainees holding a range of worldviews 
  • work in inpatient medical settings including inpatient rehabilitation units
  • provide consultation to medical units and/or working with interdisciplinary treatment teams
  • conduct brief assessment and treatment of stress, pain, depression, anxiety, ASD/PTSD, and nonadherence as well as brief interventions for substance use disorders 
  • provide supervision and training for our APA accredited pre-doctoral and post-doctoral clinical psychology training programs. These training programs date back over 20 years and are very strong, well-integrated parts of our department and hospital
  • be expected to establish an independent research program, obtain external funding for their own line of research and to collaborate with other investigators on funded research   
  • All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching and service.  


  • PhD/PsyD or equivalent degree from an APA/CPA – accredited program or foreign equivalent 
  • Completion of an APA-accredited Internship and one or two-year fellowship with specialty in rehabilitation psychology or clinical health psychology be licensed or license eligible in the State of Washington 
  • Board-certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology or foreign equivalent  
  • Have experience conducting suicide risk screenings, prevention, and management; in the treatment of people with SCI, TBI, Stroke, Amputation, Burns and other severe trauma 
  • Have substantial education, training, and experience in conducting research
  • Candidates should have a record of peer-reviewed publications and participation in funded research commensurate with their years of practice.
