Assistant Professor in Nature, Green Space and Outdoor Recreation

Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor within the cross-fields of green space planning, management and governance, and outdoor recreation. The 3 years position is expected to be filled by January 01, 2021 or as soon possible thereafter.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, grant applications, and other research management. The position includes responsibility for research-based teaching in urban forestry and urban green infrastructure governance and related topics (with associated supervision and examination duties) as well as other tasks requested by the Department.

Candidates for this position must have a Ph.D. in urban green infrastructure or urban forestry governance, or a related field and must have worked with research in relevant fields in a Post Doc position or similar. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated track record in teaching and research related to urban forestry, urban green infrastructure planning and outdoor recreation. It is expected that the successful candidate will maintain a strong research program on urban green infrastructure governance related to just climate resilience in social, ecological, and technological pathways. The candidate should be comfortable working with interdisciplinary perspectives, within an international research and teaching context, and applying the knowledge to urban forestry, urban and rural planning and related social, ecological, and technological planning, policy and management domains. The candidate should have demonstrated success in peer-reviewed publishing.

Applicants will be assessed based on their qualifications within the following scientific areas:

  • Urban green infrastructure governance approaches
  • Urban green infrastructure and climate resilience
  • Urban green infrastructure and social, ecological, technological systems
  • Urban green infrastructure, sense of place, values
  • Green space planning, urban forestry
  • Technologies for mapping uses of greenspaces and for communication in governance/planning

Experience with planning and management of national and international projects is considered an advantage. Applicants who are not proficient in Danish or another Scandinavian language must over a short span of years be able to supervise in Danish and carry out public sector consultancy in Danish.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications and experiences.

The Assistant Professor will be a member of the staff in the department’s Section for Landscape Architecture and Planning. The Section has a staff of approximately 100 including 30 Ph.D. students and is organized in six Research Groups. The section is responsible for the Landscape Architecture program at University of Copenhagen with an annual uptake of 60 students.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to 437.843 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 74.871). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
