This newly-created position is supported by the Dairy Innovation Hub in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The Hub is an exciting new initiative at three of the leading UW agricultural schools (UW-Madison, UW-Platteville, and UW-River Falls) and fosters dairy research, education and outreach in the priority areas of Stewarding Land & Water Resources, Ensuring Animal Health & Welfare, Growing Farm Businesses & Communities, and Enriching Human Health and Nutrition. The position will support the "Enriching Human Health and Nutrition" priority area, and will have a tenure home within the Department of Nutritional Sciences. The vision for this priority area is to elucidate novel links between milk components and human health leading to new dairy product(s) for individuals across the human life cycle consistent with "personalized nutrition". The position carries a commitment to the three functions of research, instruction, outreach, and service, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to the position and rank. Additionally, as a Hub-supported position, the faculty member will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other Hub researchers, pursue Hub funding opportunities, and participate in Hub programs. Principal Duties: The incumbent will perform research, teaching, and outreach in their area of expertise in ways that are relevant to dairy agriculture and related fields. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally competitive research program in the multidisciplinary area of nutrition and health, with focus on dairy and its components. The successful candidate will have expertise in conducting clinical human feeding studies to explore mechanisms involving physiologic, metabolic, or immunologic impacts of dairy products through the lifespan. The candidate will work independently and also within a collaborative research team to support the mission of the Dairy Innovation Hub. The position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutritional sciences. Teaching responsibilities will be commensurate with college expectations and consistent with the teaching loads of other departmental faculty. The individual will be expected to facilitate interdisciplinary efforts and collaborative efforts within the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and federal labs.
