The University of Washington School of Dentistry is ranked No. 3 in the United States, and No. 4 in the world by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy in its newly released 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities. The University of Washington, as both a state government institution and a public university, meets the federal requirement of a “public service organization” as defined by the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.

The Department of Oral Health Sciences (OHS) is seeking a full-time faculty member for an Assistant Professor without Tenure by Reason of Funding (WOT). This is a 12-month active service period full-time position that is open until June 1, 2021, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2021. A mandatory review for promotion must be conducted no later than the sixth year of the appointment. OHS comprises a diverse group of faculty and trainees who carry out research, scholarship and teaching in oral biology, dental public health, behavioral science and biostatistics. OHS faculty members teach in the pre-doctoral dental curriculum, and to graduate students enrolled in the OHS and clinical specialty programs in the School of Dentistry.

The successful candidate will provide 80% of their salary support from external funding (up to 20% of the 80% could be from clinical practice). The UW School of Dentistry is committing 20% salary support for instruction, grant writing and administrative duties. Position Description:

  • This hire will improve the educational offerings of our predoctoral and graduate teaching programs with their instruction promoting contemporary patient-centered training. They will facilitate cutting-edge interprofessional educational and clinical instruction to predoctoral and graduate students.
  • This hire will contribute to the School of Dentistry’s research mission by producing translational and transformative scholarly work, securing research grants, and enhancing the visibility of behavioral dental research for which the School has a longstanding strong reputation.
  • This hire is also expected to engage in other department and school activities, especially related to: diversity, equity, and inclusion; culture change, professionalism, and morale; and workforce wellness.
  •  In addition to teaching and research, all University of Washington faculty members are expected to participate actively in service to the university and profession.

The successful candidate must, at a minimum, have a PhD in a field related to behavioral and social sciences as applied to dentistry. In addition to directing an innovative research program in the behavioral dental sciences, qualified individuals should have teaching experience in a school of dentistry, as well as experience with grant writing. This faculty member will direct a research program in behavioral dentistry and teach predoctoral dental students and graduate students enrolled in the OHS and clinical specialty programs in the School of Dentistry. Licensed clinical psychologists are eligible to practice within the school’s clinical practice plan.
