Position Summary

The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in Indianapolis, Indiana, is seeking to fill an immediate opening for a tenure- or research- track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or above (commensurate with qualifications), focusing on research in the area of hearing loss and cochlear implantation. Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in audiology, speech and hearing science, psychology, medicine, or a related discipline, and have significant experience and/or potential for developing an independent, extramurally funded research program. The successful candidate will join faculty research colleagues in the DeVault Otologic Research Laboratory at IUSM, a vibrant successful laboratory with an extensive portfolio of research projects. Studies performed in this laboratory provide groundbreaking knowledge on speech, language, and neurocognitive development in children and adults with hearing loss who receive hearing aids or cochlear implants.

Candidates will be expected to participate in the School’s missions of research, teaching and service, including developing and supporting a successful, high-visibility independent research program. Responsibilities will consist of research design, manuscript writing, grant writing, and directing research projects as a principal investigator. Other responsibilities will include collaboration on other research projects with colleagues, education/supervision of trainees (medical students, residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows), and contributions to the service missions of the department and school.

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery has a broad research, clinical, and teaching mission, including a medical student education program, residency, and research fellowships. Startup funding and institutional resources will be made available based on the qualifications and needs of the candidate, including the potential for endowed funding if appropriate.

Basic Qualifications

Doctoral or terminal degree required. Qualified applicants should have a doctoral degree in audiology, speech and hearing science, psychology, medicine, or a related discipline and demonstrated evidence of leadership, high-quality publications, and potential for extramural funding.
