Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (Tenure Track)

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning January 1, 2021.  We are seeking a candidate who has at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience but no more than 3 years as an independent investigator.  We are looking to appoint an outstanding investigator who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Department and the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Scientists from diverse backgrounds and under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, e.g. Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Genomics, or Bioinformatics; we are especially interested in candidates that have training in both bench science and bioinformatics skills. Also, we are particularly interested in candidates who have experience analyzing large cancer-related genomic and epigenomic datasets and who have led analysis efforts in projects that are components of large consortia, such as the Genetic Associations and Mechanisms in Oncology (GAME-ON), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE), and the PsychENCODE Consortia. The research space for this recruitment will be in the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center within the Keck School of Medicine of USC. The chosen candidate will be expected to form strong collaborations with other members of the Cancer Center. Therefore, in addition to an outstanding record of first and/or corresponding author publications,  documentation of a strong record of applicant-driven collaboration should be provided.  In addition to research, the new recruit will play an important role in the educational mission of the department, teaching and training MS, PhD, and medical students. The optimal candidate should have experience in mentoring graduate students in research-based projects and also provide a summary of their own teaching-related training experiences and their future goals related to classroom teaching.
