Summary Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a full-time clinical psychologist to join our team. The Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. This position will support both the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition and the Division of Pediatric Allergy & Immunology. The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care for a broad range of gastrointestinal diseases including disorders affecting the brain-gut axis (e.g. neurogastrointestinal and motility disorders). The Division of Allergy & Immunology provides outpatient and inpatient services for children diagnosed with allergic diseases of all sorts, including food allergy, as well as immune deficiencies and immune dysregulation. We have robust clinical and research endeavors, crossing genetics, immunology, and clinical science.

Responsibilities:

The clinical psychologist, with a dual appointment in the Departments of Pediatrics (Divisions of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and Allergy and Immunology) and Psychiatry, will develop psychosocial and clinical programing, screening, and research within outpatient services. The psychologist will collaborate with multidisciplinary medical, psychiatry consultation-liaison, psychosocial, and integrative therapy teams. The overall responsibility distribution is 80% clinical and 20% research and teaching with responsibilities equally shared in both Divisions.

The psychologist will provide direct clinical care and assessments of patients and families. Responsibilities within this role are diverse, and may include:

• Provide direct patient care, including assessment, consultation, therapy (individual, family, and/or group), preventive health education for children and families.
• Development and implementation of evidence based treatment interventions including but not limited to cognitive behavior therapy, psychodynamic therapy, relaxation training, group counseling psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), biofeedback training, coping support.
• Development of tools for clinicians to use in their own interactions with, and communications to, patients regarding disease and diagnoses which are impacted by cognitive and behavioral issues.
• Participate in various research projects.
• Assists with translation of research findings and standards of care into therapeutic approaches which can be utilized by interdisciplinary teams.
• Program development and participation in outcome research including QI initiatives.
• Helping to shape clinic practices through participation in committees and provider meetings.

Minimum Degree Required
Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited APA graduate program

Minimum Qualifications
New York State License
Experience working in a medical and/or integrated care setting
