DescriptionThe Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of critical care anesthesia. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in anesthesiology or status as a candidate in the examination system along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required. Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms and wards of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC), and Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH), as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions. Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of critical care services at HUP, PPMC, and PAH, as well as provision of clinical anesthesia services at HUP or PPMC. There are additional opportunities to participate in our innovative critical care programs, including tele-critical care and mobile ECMO. Our intensivists usually have one "home" unit and may rotate through one or two additional ICUs depending on the number of ICU weeks worked. Research or scholarship responsibilities may include publishing peer-reviewed publications and presenting your work at scientific meetings and other venues. Securing grants is required on the tenure track and encouraged on the clinician educator track. The strongest candidates for this position will have prior peer-reviewed publications. Both the non-tenure clinician educator track (clinician scholars) and the tenure track involve a substantial commitment to research, including investigator-initiated and collaborative research.
