The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Physical Therapy (DPT), invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of the DPT Clinical Education Program. This position is not tenure-eligible and will have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 – June 30). Initial appointments may range from 1 to 5 years, with the possibility of renewal. Anticipated start date will be in Fall 2023, but other dates may be considered.

The base salary range for this position will be $8,694 - $9,834  per month ($104,328 - $118,008 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Other compensation associated with this position may include a moving allowance or relocation incentive, if applicable.

The successful candidate will be an active participant in the teaching and administrative work of the Division of Physical Therapy and will direct the division’s Clinical Education Program. Job duties will include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

Teaching & Scholarship: The successful candidate will teach clinical courses as a lead instructor or as part of a teaching team in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. These courses focus on multiple areas of physical therapy, including clinical anatomy of the spine and extremities and therapeutic exercise. There will be opportunities to engage in ongoing scholarly activities that contribute both to the successful candidate’s professional development and expertise as an instructor and to the DPT curriculum. Job duties also will include participation in student capstone mentorship, student applicant admissions’ review, and student advising.

As Director of the DPT's Clinical Education Program (DCE), the successful candidate will coordinate and manage the clinical education sites, plan the clinical education program, implement and assess the clinical education program, obtain and maintain clinical sites, assign student clinical experiences, and foster clinical instructor development. In addition, the DCE will teach the clinical education courses in the DPT curriculum, assist in the musculoskeletal courses, advise physical therapy students, and participate in service to the program and community.

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is nationally recognized for excellence in education, research, and clinical care.  The Department’s various research programs, led by world-renowned leaders in Rehabilitation Science, as well as academic programs including the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO), Master of Occupational Therapy, and PhD in Rehabilitation Science programs, provide rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning. The Department has an exceptional record of successful extramural research funding and interprofessional collaboration.

Located on the Seattle campus, the UW DPT program enrolls approximately 50 students per year and collaborates with other medical and research centers within and beyond the University.

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is a dynamic academic and clinical department in the University of Washington School of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, which include the UW Medical Centers, Harborview Medical Center, Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The department currently holds $19 million in grants from federal and foundation funding sources.

The successful candidates must

  • have a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree or a post-professional doctoral degree in a related field, or foreign equivalent
  • be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the State of Washington.
  • have a minimum of 3 years of full-time, post-licensure clinical experience as a physical therapist -- two of which must include experience as a clinical instructor in physical therapy or a minimum of two years' experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapy education program
