Position Summary
The Department of Genetics is seeking a new Research Assistant Professor position to enhance the bioinformatics area of our collaboration efforts. This position will lead a bioinformatics core and provide bioinformatics support to faculty in the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD), the UNC Neuroscience Center, the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Bioinformatics and Analytic Research Collaborative. 

The Research Assistant Professor will independently conduct data analyses on NextGen sequencing data including data derived in ChIP-Seq, FAIRE-Seq, ATAC-seq, mRNA-Seq, Exome capture, Whole Genome Amplification, miRNA discovery, single cell sequencing, and other experimental models; analyze and interpret data from other platforms including proteomics and GeoMx; write custom programs to automate data analysis and formatting needs; develop novel and integrative pipelines for analysis; build and configure small scale computational servers and clusters; perform genome annotation and pathway analysis; provide assistance for a general bioinformatics analysis needs; deposit data into public repositories like NCBI GEO, author and co-author papers, serve as key personnel or investigator for NSF/NIH grant proposals; and train researchers on bioinformatics through short course and seminars. 

This position will also help to develop approaches for integrating genetic data with clinical, behavioral, or other phenotypes. In addition, this Research Assistant Professor will supervise and direct additional bioinformatician(s), and ensure resources of the bioinformatics core are distributed in proportion to funding sources.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD level in a scientific field with a bioinformatics emphasis and, at least two years of experience in bioinformatics.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The selected candidate should have three or more years bioinformatics experience in an academic or biotechnology setting experience preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. 

Experience with NextGen sequence data analysis, including data analyses on data derived from single-cell genomics, ChIP-Seq, mRNA-Seq, Exome capture, miRNA discovery and other experimental models is preferred. Experience developing analysis frameworks for sequence analysis.
