Institute and Research EnvironmentThe position is based at the Institute of Medicine, the largest institute at the University of Gothenburg, with approximately 470 employees and 300 doctoral students. Research spans from molecular and experimental medicine to patient-oriented clinical research, public health science, and social medicine, often in close collaboration with Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The Institute provides education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, including the medical programme. Excellence in both research and teaching is a central goal, with a strong emphasis on integration between research, education, and healthcare. Subject AreaMolecular and Translational Medicine Subject DescriptionMolecular and Translational Medicine integrates basic and applied biomedical research to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying disease onset, progression, and treatment. The field combines experimental biomedicine with clinical research and plays a key role in the development of precision medicine and personalised therapies. Research in the subject employs advanced methodologies in molecular biology, genetics, cell and tissue biology, and omics technologies (e.g. genomics, proteomics, metabolomics), together with clinical observations and patient-derived data. The translational focus aims to convert laboratory discoveries into improved diagnostics, prognostics, and treatments for complex diseases, including metabolic, cardiovascular, inflammatory, pulmonary, endocrine, and skeletal disorders. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a defining feature of the subject, bringing together clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians, and pharmaceutical scientists. DutiesThe position as Associate Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) primarily involves conducting independent, high-quality research in molecular and translational medicine.
