Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks one (1) full-time Research Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure), due to reasons of funding, in the field of malaria biology and vaccine development. The investigator will interact with University of Washington investigators interested in developing strategies to prevent and treat parasitic infections such as malaria and related pathogens. Additional responsibilities may include the teaching of graduate students, residents, fellows, medical students and medical laboratory scientist program undergraduates. The investigator is responsible for developing and maintaining an extramurally-funded research program. This position will lead the development of an independent research program on the role of vaccine development and pathogenesis in malaria and related emerging infections diseases. Research track appointees are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position is full-time, non-tenured, and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date in Winter 2024, but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be $8,245 to $11,133 per month ($98,935 to $133,591 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Microbiology or a related field. An MD (or foreign equivalent) with prior expertise in microbiology is also acceptable. Applicants must have a strong record of graduate and postdoctoral research, as documented by peer-reviewed publications. Expertise working on rodent and non-human primate pre-clinical models of infectious diseases and expertise in malaria are required.
