Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington is seeking a full time Assistant Professor without tenure or Associate Professor without tenure to join the Division of Cardiology, as a member of the Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy, and Transplant team. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a 12-month service period position, on the Clinician-Educator Pathway.  Anticipated start date is Summer of 2020. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

General expectations:

  • Outpatient and inpatient clinical service, and interpretation of echocardiography, advanced imaging and other service related non-invasive diagnostics, e.g. laboratory, sub-interpretation (translate to clinical management), and catheterization results related to heart failure, cardiomyopathy and transplantation.
  • Participating in committees as requested by the applicable Service Line or Seattle Children’s leadership.
  • Engage with referring providers and families to assure that the needs of patients and families are being met.
  • Engage with consultants, other providers in a multidisciplinary model of care.
  • Serve as a role model, leading by example and provide behavioral based feedback to team members

Clinical Care:

  • Provide excellent clinical care and in the process, support safe, efficient, and high quality services on those teams which the faculty member participates on.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of the faculty member’s patients.  


  • Work with administrative and clinical leaders to support Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plans to ensure the program goals are attained.


  • Support timely review of any patient safety events.
  • Support a robust M&M program and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Give input to continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies
  • Support legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.  
  • Maintain professionalism in regards to billing, documentation, conference attendance and collaboration with peers, trainees, staff, patients and families.
  • Respond to physician-related feedback or complaints.


  • Look for opportunities to become actively involved in scientific investigation.                                          
  • Maintain a productivity commensurate for rank and for the clinician educator track in either educational, original research, or quality and outcome type of investigation.


  • Support cardiac clinical educational programs for nursing, medical students, residents, fellows, and ARNPs.                         


The successful candidate will have earned an MD/DO, MBChB (or foreign equivalent) and board eligible or board certified in Pediatric Cardiology.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship  for an H-1B visa, graduates of a foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
