Description

An Assistant Project Scientist is needed to perform research on an NIH-funded investigation (Novel mouse genetic models to study modifiers of Huntington’s disease). The project is supported by an R01 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (RNS113612A). The goal of the investigation is to evaluate whether genetic modifiers (Fan1 reduction, mutation, and over-expression) can influence the progression of Huntington’s disease using mouse models. The role of the Assistant Project Scientist will include the following:

  1. The incumbent will manage the mouse colonies to ensure successful breeding of the Q140 and BAC-CAG lines.
  2. The incumbent will carry out behavioral analysis of locomotor activity and sleep rhythms. This requires familiarity with the ClockLab software package.
  3. The incumbent will work closely with Drs. Colwell and Yang to coordinate work in the two labs on the funded project.
  4. The incumbent will work closely with Drs. Colwell and Yang to measure the histological changes in the striatum of the mouse models.
  5. The incumbent will assist with the writing of the manuscripts describing the results of the experiments.
  6. The incumbent will attend research meetings of the Colwell and Yang laboratories, as well as journal clubs and invited faculty seminars.

This appointment is renewable annually dependent on performance and the availability of funding. The minimum educational requirement is a Ph.D. and experience working with circadian rhythms. S/he should have a strong knowledge in biomedical sciences as demonstrated by research publications.
