Project Scientist

The Project Scientist in the laboratories of Justine Lee, MD, PhD will perform basic in vitro and in vivo studies in materials for skull regeneration. Applicants must have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, materials science, biochemistry, cancer biology, immunology, or equivalent fields. Applicants must be highly experienced with standard cell biological techniques including cell culture, western blot, QPCR, immunofluorescent/immunohistochemical staining, fluorescent microscopy, and basic statistical analysis. Experience in in vivo surgeries is a plus. Applicants who have completed a productive postdoctoral fellowship will be prioritized.

Project Scientists will be expected to be independently capable of designing well-controlled, reproducible experiments and executing experiments with minimal guidance of the PI. Project Scientists will be expected to draft manuscripts of their work and apply for small grants within the first year of their appointment. Project Scientists will also help in supervising surgery residents, graduate students, and research assistants. Project Scientists will be considered as one of the senior members of the laboratory and will be expected to work well with other senior scientists as well as junior members of the lab.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.

Additional Duties:• Supervision of surgery residents, graduate students, research assistants, and new postdoctoral trainees in the lab.• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects.• Assist with preparation of grant proposals.• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.• Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.• Candidate should have extensive experience in cell culture, western blot, QPCR, immunofluorescent/immunohistochemical staining, fluorescent microscopy, and basic statistical analysis. Experience in in vivo surgeries is a plus.• The candidate will report to the Principal Investigator and the laboratory senior scientist and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.• Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.• Ability to help and train various personnel in image acquisition and analysis and make significant contributions to the design and execution of other laboratory members' experiments.
