The Assistant Project Scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Renea Sturm will perform independent research to develop innovations that will ultimately minimize the current variability in and lack of adequate tissue replacement options for surgical reconstruction of the lower urinary tract. The Assistant Project Scientist I will also be responsible for helping to supervise graduate students and undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals. This position requires a Ph.D. in bioengineering or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience. The Assistant Project Scientist position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance. Step is commensurate with experience. The assigned project is focused on innovation to improve surgical outcomes in reconstructive pediatric urology. Specifically this work is focused on tissue engineering with device development of immunomodulatory platforms and scaffolds, imaging and modeling of the lower urinary tract.

Specific Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities of this position include laboratory staff supervision, study design, data acquisition, image processing and modeling, literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.
Additional Duties:• Supervision of undergraduates, graduate students and new postdoctoral trainees in the lab.• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects.• Assist with preparation of grant proposals.• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.• Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.• Candidate should have 5 years research experience in bioengineering and/or tissue engineering in an academic setting or equivalent.• Candidate should have experience in tissue and cell culture techniques • Candidate should have experience in image processing and 3D modeling.• The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.• Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.• Ability to help and train various personnel in image acquisition and analysis and make significant contributions to the design and execution of other laboratory members' experiments.
