General Description

The Department of Cell Biology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.  For this position, we seek outstanding individuals who are addressing fundamental problems in cell biology or development, using genetic, molecular, biochemical, cellular, biophysical or integrative systems approaches.  The Department of Cell Biology is one of nine departments in the Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences (IBBS) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  Cell Biology faculty participate in the umbrella Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology Graduate Program, one of the foremost multidisciplinary graduate programs in the country.  Faculty are also members of different centers within IBBS that draw from multiple departments to bring together individuals with shared research interests.  The Department values collaborative, interdisciplinary exploration of cells in tissues, organs, and intact organisms.  To learn more about the research programs of individual faculty in the department, please visit our web site at cellbio.jhmi.edu.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD or MD, postdoctoral experience, and a strong publication record.  The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, exciting research program, to display a commitment to excellence in teaching by participating in graduate and medical student teaching, and to demonstrate a commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive biomedical community.

  • During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
