In collaboration with the Research Center (RC) of the Institut universitaire en gériatrie de Montréal (IUGM), the Faculty of Pharmacy is looking for an Assistant or an Associate Professor in research on the use of medications among elderly.

The IUGM is affiliated with the Université de Montréal and integrated in the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, one of the largest healthcare organizations in Québec. The RC IUGM is funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS) and regroup more than 55 researchers, 33 associate researchers and more than 350 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Research on the use of medications in the elderly is part of the mission of the RC IUGM which aims at determining the factors that promote better aging, as well as developing and evaluating solutions to improve the detection and effective management of diseases and conditions that limit the quality of life, autonomy and social participation of the elderly.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of excellence in the Faculty of Pharmacy through your teaching to students and your research activities. You will also ensure the development of your discipline in addition to actively contributing to the functioning of a renowned institution. In this capacity, you will carry out the following functions.

Research: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, competitive and original research program on the use of medications among elderly. We are looking for someone who will direct her or his research towards pharmacy practice, evaluative or clinical research in pharmacy, implementation science in pharmacy, medication safety and effectiveness, optimal use of medications, drug policies or any other relevant research topic. This research program should tie in with those of professors from the Faculty of Pharmacy and researchers from the RC IUGM. In order to facilitate the start of research activities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to obtain start-up funds from the RC IUGM and the Faculty of pharmacy. As a member of RC IUGM, the successful candidate will have office space for herself or himself and their research team as well as access to the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) and other shared resources (CRU coordinator, biostatistician, bank of participants, etc.). The Faculty of Pharmacy will also make office space available to the successful candidate. She or he will also have the opportunity to apply for infrastructure funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and apply for nomination as chair of the Chaire pharmaceutique Michel-Saucier en santé et vieillissement. The chair will have the opportunity to collaborate with the clinical professor of this Chaire.

Teaching: The successful candidate will actively take part in the teaching mission of the Faculty at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the field of epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, evaluative research or clinical research. She or he will also contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

Impact and contribution to the successful functioning of the organization: The successful candidate will participate actively in the development of the discipline through conferences, publications or scientific activities related to her or his field of expertise. She or he will also contribute to the functioning of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the RC IUGM through active participation in committees and working groups.

To succeed in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, clinical research, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences or any other discipline relevant to the position;
  • Have acquired research expertise in pharmacy practice, evaluative or clinical research in pharmacy, implementation science in pharmacy, medication safety and effectiveness, optimal use of medications, drug policies or any other relevant topic;
  • Have completed a postdoctoral training or equivalent in a field relevant to the position;
  • Having experience in research among elderly is an asset;
  • Having a pharmacy education is an asset;
  • Hold a salary award or be ready to submit your application to the salary award program of the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé or the Canadian Institutes of Health Research;
  • Have an adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.
