Description:

Unity Health Toronto and the University of Toronto’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology are seeking applications from qualified and highly motivated individuals to fill a permanent Transfusion Medicine Specialist position in our centre. The successful applicant must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor at the University of Toronto. The start date will be January 1, 2024, or as mutually agreed upon. 

 

Unity Health Toronto comprises St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, and Providence Healthcare in Toronto. The network has a focus on inner city health as well as world-class care in areas such as trauma care, bleeding disorders and cardiovascular surgery. Our Transfusion Medicine is responsible for Transfusion Medicine Service, Patient Blood Management service through OnTraC (Ontario Transfusion Coordinators) program, the therapeutic apheresis service and Tissue Bank. The successful candidate will provide excellence in Transfusion Medicine across our network. The successful candidate will also contribute to the academic mission of the Department, via participation in collaborative research, undergraduate teaching and residency training programs. The Department’s strategic plan includes a focus on diagnostic innovation, test utilization and clinical engagement. Interest in one of these would be an asset.

 

Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the province of Ontario and must hold postgraduate qualifications in Transfusion Medicine. Previous experience in therapeutic apheresis is an asset.  The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Fellowship training or demonstrated subspecialty expertise/commitment is favoured. Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Compensation will be in accordance with the uniform level of compensation in the Province of Ontario (currently $373,454.73), where the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has implemented a total compensation package that will equalize the successful candidate’s compensation with that of other Laboratory Physicians in the Province of Ontario.
