Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Psychiatry

The Brain Sciences Program and Department of Psychiatry at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are seeking to recruit an Academic Psychiatrist to support the Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation and the Mood Disorder Program, across the lifespan. The successful candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must be eligible for a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is January/February 2024, or a mutually agreeable date.


The Harquail Centre is Canada’s premier centre for novel research and treatment for a broad range of brain related conditions, including treatment resistant mood and anxiety disorders. Sunnybrook is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, the largest and most prestigious research-intensive University in Canada. Sunnybrook and the Harquail Centre have a strong tradition in the integration of clinical, teaching and research activities.


The successful candidate will join a collegial team of over 40 psychiatrists and will provide exemplary team-based psychiatric care for people with Mood Disorders and related disorders across the life span. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the local and central undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of the University of Toronto, Department of Psychiatry.

The incumbent will have an excellent track record in research (including obtaining peer-reviewed research grants, publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals) in the field of psychedelic and novel treatments for mood disorders and/or anxiety disorders, ideally across the life span. Additional experience in creative professional activity, quality improvement and/or education are an asset. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical psychiatry skills, specifically in helping patients with treatment resistant mood and anxiety disorders, as well as a demonstrated excellence in working as a member of multi-disciplinary teams.


Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Academic rank will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The position is anticipated to provide two protected days for academic work, with any potential further adjustments being discussed amongst the parties.


The estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300,000 - $400,000, based on a combination of clinical stipends, fee-for-service billings, funding through Academic and Educational Trust Funds, Research stipends and on-call stipends, and will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
