Position Overview

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a position in Veterinary Clinical Diagnostics, which includes diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and diagnostic tests in domestic animals.

Applicants may be appointed as:

  • Assistant Professor / Associate Professor (tenure track)

  • Full Professor

The position will be housed in the Department of Equine and Small Animal Medicine at the Viikki campus. The appointee will lead and develop veterinary diagnostics in teaching, research, clinical services, and continuing education. The main focus can be small animal or equine diagnostics, with potential involvement in production animal medicine teaching.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of veterinary clinical diagnostics programs, particularly diagnostic imaging

  • Conduct independent research and supervise PhD students

  • Participate in clinical services in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital

  • Contribute to continuing education and training for veterinary professionals

  • Collaborate with colleagues in research and clinical practice

  • Potential leadership and administrative duties within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital


Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • DVM (or equivalent) degree

  • PhD in veterinary clinical diagnostics or related field (required by application deadline)

  • Fluency in English

Preferred / Merit:

  • Authorization as a veterinarian in the EU or EEA

  • Specialist degree in veterinary diagnostic imaging (Diplomate of ECVDI or ACVR) or EBVS diplomate in a related field

  • Experience in research, teaching, and supervision

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Professor-Level Requirements:

  • Top-level scholarly qualifications, including competitive research funding and leadership of a research group

  • International collaboration experience

  • Ability to provide high-level research-based teaching

Language Requirement:

  • If not proficient in Finnish or Swedish, moderate proficiency must be acquired within a reasonable time; support for language studies is provided.


Work Environment

  • The Diagnostic Imaging Unit serves Small Animal and Equine Hospitals and provides consultation services for Production Animal Hospital

  • Staff includes veterinarians, radiographers, and access to state-of-the-art equipment (digital radiology, ultrasonography, CT, MRI)

  • Part of Helsinki in vivo Animal Imaging Platform (HAIP) and Diagnostic Imaging Service for Animals (DISA)

  • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is Finland’s only veterinary training institution, with ~750 students and 150 staff
