The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a senior-level position (Associate or Full Professor) in the area of brain development and brain-behavior relationships in early childhood. We are particularly interested in a faculty colleague who studies the links between brain processes in infants and young children and social-affective abilities that emerge during these developmental periods, with a particular focus on social interaction and cognition. A focus on individual differences in social development in relation to brain processes and environmental factors would also be preferred. A successful applicant will be a leader of a program of research, with a strong publication record and a proven track record of securing external funding. Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses as well as mentoring the research of students enrolled in our Ph.D. programs in HDFS and in the Dual-Title Ph.D. program in HDFS and Social and Behavioral Neuroscience. The Department of Human Development and Family Studies ( has a diverse, multi-disciplinary faculty that focuses on individual development from infancy through old age, on family structure and dynamics, on the impact of social/cultural contexts on development and family functioning, and on the design and evaluation of interventions to promote health and development and to prevent disease. A strong research and training program in developmental and family science, prevention science, and quantitative data science is integrated into the Department’s research and graduate education activities.
