Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is seeking a full-time pathologist for appointment as Associate Professor, without tenure due to funding, to join our Hematopathology Division on the School of Medicine’s clinician-teacher pathway. Clinical responsibilities will include reporting of morphology for lymph nodes, tissues, bloods and marrows, flow cytometry (diagnostic and minimal residual disease testing) and molecular diagnostic testing in the Hematopathology Laboratory at the University of Washington Medical Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, as well as teaching hematology / hematopathology to students, residents and fellows. Applicants are expected to be involved in division and departmental administrative leadership roles, quality management within the lab and involvement in new test development. This includes interest and ability to provide a leadership role in hematopathology fellowship and AP/CP resident training. Applicants are expected to develop an area of focused research / scholarly work.

This is a full-time, 12-month service position [July 1-June 30] and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.


Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. (or foreign equivalent) and be Board-eligible or –certified in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology (American Board of Pathology). The candidate should additionally either be Board-eligible or –certified in Hematopathology. Subspecialty expertise in Hematopathology is required. Must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington State. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
