The Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for one full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of occupational performance with musculoskeletal or neurological conditions. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2019, or shortly thereafter.


We are seeking exceptional candidates with scholarship in occupational science or occupational therapy focused on musculoskeletal or neurological conditions affecting children and youth, older adults, or populations across the lifespan. Scholarly work focusing on enabling occupational engagement and inclusion of people at risk for, or living with musculoskeletal or neurological conditions is required. The successful candidate’s scholarship will situate occupation as a key determinant of health and well-being across their program of research and creative professional activities. Research on new models of service delivery, measurement, and effective practices will complement our existing departmental strengths.


Applicants must have a PhD in occupational science or occupational therapy, rehabilitation, social or health science, or a related field at the time of appointment; will have completed a post-doctoral fellowship or equivalent, such as a scientist role at a university or research institute, for a minimum of one year; and will be registered or eligible to register with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. The successful candidate will have an international reputation for their independent, innovative program of research and will be expected to sustain and lead an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program at the highest international level.


The successful candidate will demonstrate an exceptional record of excellence in research, innovative scholarship and teaching. Excellence in research will be demonstrated through a record of sustained, high-impact publications in leading international and discipline-related refereed journals as first and senior responsible author; competitive, national grants as principal investigator; the current and projected program of research; invited presentations at significant conferences; distinguished awards and accolades and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline; as well as strong endorsements by referees of high standing. Excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments in an entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy program; doctoral research supervision; the teaching dossier, including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi or other teaching materials, and teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference.


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
