We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 5-year associate professorship (20 %) to commence Autumn 2020 at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research.

Our research

The associate professor will be working in the Clinical Proteomics group, led by Professor Matthias Mann, at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR). The main research focus of Professor Matthias Mann’s laboratory is to identify novel biomarkers that can be used for patient diagnosis and possibly for the prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases, such as diabetes and cancer. To this end, the lab is developing and using cutting-edge mass spectrometry-based proteomics; an area in which the Mann Group is world-leading.

Your job

You will be working with implementing mass-spectrometry based proteomic in the clinic and furthermore also using it in the field of metabolism and endocrine disorders. Your focus will be to generate novel insight in metabolic disorders (e.g. diabetes and liver disorders) using mass-spectrometry based proteomics and furthermore to implement mass-spectrometry in clinical diagnostics. You will work in close collaboration with bioinformaticians and experts in the field of proteomics. The position also includes designing, execution and analysis of clinical studies (e.g. GCP monitored studies) and as well animal studies. Teaching activities are to be expected. 

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications

The successful applicant should be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

The associate professor is furthermore required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.


We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You are a MD and have a PhD in the field of proteomics and/or metabolism
  • You are or haven been actively working in the clinics in the field of diagnostics (for example Clinical Biochemistry)
  • You have previous experience in targeted and untargeted mass-spectrometry based proteomic
  • You have an active interest and preferably prior experience in bridging proteomic for clinical application
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills (if possible, documented):

  • Experience in plasma proteomic
  • Knowledge in the field of metabolism/diabetes is necessary
  • Experience in designing and execution of animal and clinical studies
  • Experience in General Data Protection Regulation
  • Experience in Good Clinical Practice and Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials
  • Experience in supervision of students from master student- to postdoc level.
  • Have or is taking course in pedagogy of university teaching

Place of employment

The place of employment is at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research at Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories.

Terms of employment

The employment as associate professor (20%) is for 5 years. Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
