About the position
At the Department of Health Sciences in Ålesund, two permanent 50% vacancies are available as associate professor / university lecturer in health sciences (anesthesia and surgical nursing). For relevant applicants, there may be the possibility of employment in a smaller part-time position. For applicants who have a relevant main position in the health service, it will be possible to establish a collaborative position.


Further training in anesthesia and surgery is carried out in a collaboration across the study towns of Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund. The place of work for the positions is Ålesund.


The positions are administratively affiliated with the Institute of Health Sciences in Ålesund and the position holder reports to the Head of Department.



  • Professional responsibility for the field of anesthesia or surgical nursing together with the Institute's other scientific staff
  • Guidance and teaching of students at various levels in the subject area, including skills training and simulation
  • Participation in administrative work
  • Development of courses and new forms of learning in anesthesia or surgical nursing

As an associate professor, the position holder will also be responsible for research in the field of anesthesia or surgical nursing together with the Institute's other scientific staff. This includes own research and guidance from students in the field.


The positions will involve collaboration with supervisors in the specialist health service.

Collaboration with professionals in similar positions in Trondheim and Gjøvik is included in the position.

Employees must expect to contribute with teaching in their field of study in all the study programs at the faculty.

The position holder must adhere to the decisions on changes that result in the development of the subject, and the organizational changes that decisions regarding the university's activities may entail.


eligibility Requirements

The post of associate professor requires a Norwegian doctorate in the relevant field or equivalent foreign doctorate approved as equivalent to a Norwegian doctorate or competence at a similar level documented by scientific work of the same scope and quality.


Emphasis will be placed on the ability to initiate and lead research and development work. The publication of research results in recognized international journals within their field of study will be of great importance. The greatest emphasis has been placed on scientific work over the past five years excluding statutory leave.


Educational skills and qualifications will be emphasized. The assessment will be based on documented educational material, forms of preparation in the scientific work, experience from teaching, doctoral and master's degree guidance as well as educational background of another kind. Applicants with teaching experience at the university level will be preferred. Quality and breadth will be assessed.



The position of senior lecturer is required to obtain a master's degree or equivalent in nursing / health science and relevant research qualifications beyond the master's or master's degree level and / or relevant professional practice and / or development work of a certain extent.


In addition, documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence is required on the basis of education or teaching and supervision. If this cannot be documented, those who are hired to complete an approved course in university pedagogy are required within two years of employment. NTNU offers qualifying courses. 


For employees as associate professor or university lecturer without basic academic qualifications and who are unable to document equivalent qualifications, are required to undergo an approved educational development program within two years of joining.


S pesifikke qualifications concerning both job categories:

  • Clinical experience and expertise as an anesthetic or surgical nurse is a requirement
  • Applicants must have good oral and written ability in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
  • Experience in medical and nursing professional simulation is desirable

Salary and terms
The position under code 1011 is normally paid from gross NOK 573 100 - 704 900 per employee. years depending on qualifications and seniority. 2% of the statutory contribution is deducted from statutory contributions to the Government Pension Fund.


The position as senior lecturer code 1009 is normally paid from gross NOK 496 100 - 615 900 per employee. years depending on qualifications and seniority. 2% of the statutory contribution is deducted from statutory contributions to the Government Pension Fund.


The employment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employment Act, and legislation governing the export of knowledge, technology and services. After employment, you must expect that changes may occur in the work area.
