Associate Research Scientist in Molecular and Cellular biology
Columbia University New York, Department of Neurology
United States

Summary Description

We are looking for an experienced Associate Research Scientist/ Laboratory Scientist to help execute large-scale projects under the supervision of the CTCN director. The preferred candidate will have expertise in molecular and cellular biology laboratory techniques, will be able to master and optimize novel experimental protocols as required by the project, and will be able to work largely independently within a large team to accomplish the project’s goals. Showing initiative, being proactive and being able to effectively manage junior research assistants to accomplish a project are required.
Most of the projects are executed as part of a team composed of a biologist, a clinician, and a computational biologist. The candidate, following the CTCN director’s guidance, will manage 1-2 large projects on a day to day basis. The typical project involves purification of immune cells from blood or tissue, manipulation of these cells in vitro, and subsequent profiling of the biomaterial to generate RNA, epigenomic, proteomic or other data. The candidate will be responsible for accessing pertinent samples from the archive of human material, optimizing the experimental protocol by reaching out to colleagues and other scientists outside the group as needed, then executing the protocol on 500-1000 human samples, interfacing with a genomics or proteomics core facility to generate high-dimensional data, and finally transferring the resulting data to the computational team member. During the sample processing phase, the candidate will supervise 1-2 research technicians.
