Associate/Full Professor of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking applications for the Chair in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders at St. Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. This is a term, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital Chair. The successful candidate must hold (or be eligible to apply for) a Scientist or Investigator research appointment with Unity Health. Applications from full Professors are preferred but individuals at the rank of Associate Professor who have expertise in leading an innovative, independent, competitive, and externally funded research program of an international caliber will be considered. The tentative start date of this appointment is October 1, 2023 or shortly thereafter.

 

The successful candidate will be a recognized researcher with an established research program in mental health and/or substance use disorders. An ideal candidate would have experience with the design and evaluation of interventions to address mental health disorders and/or substance use harms, including clinical, community, and policy innovations, and the social determinants of health at multiple levels. The Chair will lead a world-class program of impactful research and innovation that contributes to the strategic goals and align with the research priorities of Unity Health Toronto, including but not limited to: integrated care for our urban communities, excellent care for those experiencing disadvantage, achieving quality together, and revolutionizing care through digital transformation. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including grants and awards, peer-reviewed publications, community/patient engagement and collaborations locally, nationally and internationally as well as supervision of graduate students and fellows). The research program of the Chair will also impact health systems and policy across Canada and internationally through extensive knowledge translation and dissemination activities.

 

The successful applicant must hold an MD degree, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry and eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and/or a PhD degree as well as a record of excellence in scholarship in this area.

 

The Chair will provide approximately $200K/year for 5 years which will support the academic activities of the incumbent, which may include salary support, research operations, and relevant education events.
