Job Description

Sinai Health System and the University of Toronto are seeking applications for a Clinician Scientist to become the inaugural Chair in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Excellence and Discovery at Sinai Health System. The start date is negotiable, expected January 1, 2026.

The Division of Rheumatology aims to advance RA care, research, innovation, and advocacy. Sinai Health is recognized internationally for excellence in RA, and the Chair will lead initiatives to integrate multimodal expertise in RA to enhance patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will join a large, academically successful rheumatology unit with a clinical role aligned with divisional and departmental priorities. The Division incorporates exemplary clinical care, an active clinical research program, and a strong presence in medical education at internal medicine, subspecialty, and fellowship levels.


Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto.

  • MD degree and completed postgraduate subspecialty training in rheumatology, resulting in recognized certification as a rheumatologist.

  • Eligible for licensure in Ontario.

  • Graduate training in a field aligned with research and scholarly endeavors.

  • Leadership experience and an established track record in collaborative clinical, basic, and/or translational research.

  • National/international recognition as an expert in RA.

  • Ability to develop a strategic plan and fundraising program for RA research.

  • Experience in clinical teaching and supervision.

This is a 5-year term appointment, renewable following successful review.


Academic & Clinical Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead RA research initiatives, integrating clinical care and research expertise.

  • Report to University of Toronto and Sinai Health System leadership for the Division of Rheumatology and the Department of Medicine.

  • Academic excellence will be assessed through peer-reviewed publications, research grants, professional activities, conference presentations, awards, and accolades.

  • Primary clinical research appointment at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute.


Remuneration & Resources

  • Base salary support commensurate with the job description.

  • Funding through clinical fee-for-service billings, the Alternate Funding Plan, and funds from the endowed Chair.

  • The Chair is endowed at $3 Million, providing annual revenues for Chair support and scholarly activities.
