The School of Clinical Medicine

The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of both phases of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba as well as QE2 and Redlands Hospitals; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside as well as Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals; Mater and Queensland Childrens Hospitals, South Brisbane; Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich; Greenslopes Private Hospital, Greenslopes; the Primary Care Clinical Unit, Herston and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders

About This Opportunity

Opportunity to contribute to a key project which involves the analysis of the administrative data and the creation of a final report to Cancer Australia, and annual/ final reports to HRECs, as well contributing to peer-reviewed publications.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaise with data custodians and validate and clean the survey data
  • Undertake data analysis to address the project goals
  • Engage in independent and/or team research program to achieve national recognition and impact in the research area. • Conduct literature reviews
  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.
  • Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in the development of the programs of the centre – this includes local, state, national and international stakeholder.
  • Prepare research publications and progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology and outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a Biostatistician with a doctoral research qualification (e.g., PhD, MD) in a relevant discipline ((e.g., public health, psychology, health promotion, biostatistics), and experience and research output in data linkage. The appointee must have demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and must be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in the design and development of research databases
  • Extensive experience using statistical analysis software, including proficiency in SAS and/or R, or similar programming applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of health-related data collections and systems, the strengths and weaknesses of these databases and a good understanding of the NSW and Australian Health Systems
  • Extensive experience conducting and interpreting statistical analyses of population based health administrative other health related data, including linked datasets, using a range of analytic tools and methodologies to describe clinical care, clinical pathways, or the performance of health systems.

High level written, verbal communication, interpersonal and consultation skills, both inter- and intra-agency. This includes demonstrated experience in preparing written reports and scientific papers which present statistical analyses in a manner suitable for publication.

This is a full time, fixed term position until 30 June 2022 (with the possibility of an extension to 30 June 2023) at Academic Level B. The base salary will be in the range $99,542 - $118, 206 plus super of up to 17%.
