Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a full-time Chief of Audiology as Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor. This position would be an annual appointment with a 12-month service period (July 1 -June 30).  The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023. 

Located at the University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center, this position will have accountability for provision of clinical audiology and directorship of audiology services across UW sites.  This position also supports the UW Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery Department’s mission to train clinicians, further develop programs for deaf/hard of hearing individuals, and to advance hearing related research.

The Department of Otolaryngology is a cohesive, innovative, and enthusiastic environment with strong existing faculty, excellent technical resources and tremendous research opportunities.  Ongoing clinical and research collaborations extend across many other UW entities including: Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences (I-LABS) and Bioengineering.  Seattle is a growing, vibrant, exciting city with many cultural, recreational and family activities within easy reach.

This position will have accountability for the delivery and implementation of services that shall include, but not be limited to:

  • Directorship for clinical audiology, including overseeing and training audiologists, technicians, audiology students/externs. Participate in audiology education of resident physicians, fellows and medical students
  • Developing and reviewing administrative and clinical policies, procedures and practice standards pertaining to Audiology; deployment within and across sites, billing and collection processes for clinical services including: diagnostics, neonatal screening, hearing aids, cochlear implants and assistive listening devices.
  • Partnering with clinic and departmental administration and Neurotology/Otology faculty to oversee and develop clinical services and outreach programs
  • Facilitating meetings of audiologists and other clinical professionals across UW sites
  • Provide direct patient care and compliant documentation and billing at no less than 60% Clinical FTE.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $12,083 - $13,750 per month ($145,000 - $165,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Qualifications

The applicant must have an AuD or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in a related field with clinical credentials in audiology.

The Chief will be an articulate and vigorous spokesperson and advocate for the department’s clinical, scientific and educational missions. 

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, 1) demonstrated effective leadership for audiology in a diverse community of faculty colleagues, students, and staff, 2) promoted scholarship and advanced innovative programming and professional opportunities, 3) capacity to serve as an articulate and vigorous advocate for the department’s clinical, scientific and educational missions, and 4) demonstrated business and/or management experience.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
