UQ Centre for Clinical Research

The University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR) is a $70 million purpose-built facility sponsored by Atlantic Philanthropies, the Queensland Government (Smart State funding) and UQ. The building, completed in early 2008, is located at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital site at Herston, Brisbane. The RBWH is the largest teaching hospital in Australia and the site also houses a basic medical research institute (QIMR), and a significant Faculty of Medicine presence, including the School of Public Health. The UQCCR has capacity for 320 staff with affiliation guided by research strengths, assessed by defined research quality indicators.

UQCCR’s mission is to improve health outcomes for individuals and populations based on rigorous, high quality clinical research. This is achieved by facilitating research and training, influencing patient care, and providing the translational linkages between basic and applied scientific research, the patient, and health outcomes. The current research themes are: Clinical Neuroscience; Cancer; Fertility; and Infectious Diseases.

About This Opportunity

As Clinical Research Nurse the successful applicant will, under the supervision of principal investigators, experienced clinicians, and project managers within the Infectious Diseases Theme – conduct and coordinate clinical research activities in various clinical studies and randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

In this case research activities include, but are not limited to, assisting with project setup and administration, participant recruitment and follow-up, mixed methods data collection and database usage/support, bio sample collection, investigational product (IP) and medication education and administration and liaising with key stakeholders as needed.

Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of study specific documentation including: participant information and informed consent forms (PICFs), study-specific manuals of procedures, study databases and other related study documents.
  • Lead quality improvement and research activities, under supervision from principal investigators/study teams.
  • Conduct studies according to the study protocol, SOPs, and ICH/GCP regulations and study-specific manuals and procedures.
  • Assist with and coordination of Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and research governance submissions across multiple clinical sites.

This position is located at our Herston Campus, UQ’s core campus for clinical health teaching and research – however occasional travel between clinical trial sites and other locations may be required.

Sharing premises with Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, UQ’s Herston Campus houses a vibrant clinical and research community that delivers innovative and contemporary research and education programs in a clinical academic environment.

Conveniently located just minutes from Brisbane’s city centre, there is access to multiple public transport connections, onsite parking and cycling facilities.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside tertiary qualifications in Nursing, with a minimum of four years clinical research nurse/coordination experience in clinical trials, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • An ability to perform clinical activities including experience in venipuncture skills, medication administration, ECG etc.
  • Knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements for clinical trials and clinical research.
  • A successful track record in conducting and assisting in the coordination of clinical trials and clinical research in collaboration with other health disciplines.
  • Experience in clinical study/trial start up and all aspects of coordination through to close-out activities.
  • High level written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with strong organisational and planning skills.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of current AHPRA registration and immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, 12 month fixed-term position at HEW Level 7.

The full-time base salary will be in the range of $88,763 - $96,783, plus super of up to 17% (the total package will be in the range of $103,852 - $113,236).
