Monash Rural Health (MRH) is a school within the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences that carries a mandate to improve the health status of regional, rural and remote communities in Australia, and more specifically in Victoria. We are committed to a sustainable rural health workforce and are achieving these outcomes through the development and implementation of medical and health professions education programs in underserved regional and rural communities, and by undertaking targeted research programs that address priority health problems in rural populations.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (Practice) to join the School of Rural Health in Bendigo. The position, Director, Northwest Postgraduate Training Hub is based at Monash Rural Health Bendigo, which is located in the health education and research precinct and the Bendigo Primary Care Centre. The precinct is located between the acute and rehabilitation campuses of Bendigo Health and adjacent to Bendigo Hospital.

The Director of the Northwest Regional Training Hub (NRTH) will play a major role in developing innovative solutions to address rural medical workforce recruitment and retention, with a particular focus on better enabling rural post-graduate training. In this exciting role, you will drive and develop the NRTH, working with the relevant education, professional and health service stakeholders in the region to develop and maintain models better linking integrated post-graduate training pathways for medical students interested in rural careers.

Utilising your senior clinical academic knowledge and experience, you will develop networks to build successful partnerships, to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders to achieve the objectives of the program. You will make significant and innovative contributions in the success of regional medical education initiatives, establishing regional leadership in junior doctor education and implementing strategies that will have a lasting and sustainable impact on the rural medical education and training workforce.

The Director will -

  • Provide leadership across the continuum of medical undergraduate, Junior doctor and vocational training
  • Develop and maintain networks with relevant education professionals, Specialty Colleges and health service stakeholders to support the integration of longer-term specialty medical training at a local level
  • Identify areas of regional medical workforce needs across the North-West and work to build medical training capacity in these areas including identification of university-level medical students with an interest in rural practice
  • Provide local medical students and junior doctors with support including assistance with career planning, placement opportunities and access to mentoring

To be successful in this role you with have demonstrated academic excellence, a proven ability to establish outstanding working relationships with colleagues and students, and demonstrated experience in clinical medicine. In addition to this, you need to have current AHPRA registration. 

This role is a part-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
