The Institute for Health, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, and the substantial resources of Rutgers University offer a rich collaborative environment for conducting research in health disparity and health equity. IFH is the home to a variety of program focused on health disparities and health equity, including NIA funded P30 RCMAR Center. RBHS is home to Rutgers Health Group, New Jersey’s largest multi-specialty medical group that includes the state’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a large behavioral health delivery system, and Robert Wood Johnson Partners, a commercial and Medicare ACO. RBHS partners with RWJBarnabas Health, the state’s largest healthcare delivery system for clinical-academic research partnerships. Research among these units expands considerably the opportunities for this position.

The Institute for Health has faculty and other researchers with considerable expertise in the health disparity and health equity research, social and clinical sciences, health research and policy, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, and related fields. The faculty have exceptional capacity and decades long history of addressing the most pressing health and healthcare challenges. The Institute and its Survey Data Core is home to considerable expertise in the analysis of large, integrated health-related clinical and administrative datasets, national surveys, Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance data with the application of social science theory and advanced statistical techniques.

Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research invites applications for multiple faculty positions in Biomedical Informatics, to build on existing strengths in Data Sciences and Biomedical and Health Sciences. We seek an outstanding Biomedical Data Scientist with a strong track record of research and publication in, and a compelling vision for, realizing the promise and potential of big data to dramatically improve individual and population health, and a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. Our search committee is looking for broad range of expertise in Data Sciences including, but not limited to informatics, information integration, knowledge representation and ontologies, machine learning, causality, longitudinal data analyses, interventional studies, biomedical text and/or image analysis. Faculty members in Biomedical Informatics will have the ability to access the Institute for Health Survey / Data Core, which provides substantial administrative, survey, and clinical data resources to encourage and support high impact research. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Machine Learning, Pharmacy, Public Health Sciences, Demography, Population Health, Health Policy and Economics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) prior employment at the Institute.

Minimum Education and Experience

A doctoral of equivalent degree in a relevant field (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Machine Learning, Pharmacy, Public Health Sciences, Demography, Population Health, Health Policy and Economics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) prior to beginning employment at Rutgers University is required. Candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor must have strong research potential (as demonstrated by relevant publications). Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong track record of research publication, and funding, and those for Full Professor position should have a track record of research, publication, and funding that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in Biomedical Data Sciences. All candidates must pass a background check before beginning employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience working with large data and large data storage solutions in multi-tier high security environments subject to HIPAA compliancy.
