General Description
The Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital (JHACH) Heart Institute invites applications from outstanding candidates with national stature for a leadership position as the Chief of Pediatric Cardiology. Working closely with the Physician-in-Chief and Vice Dean, and the Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Co-Director of the Heart Institute, James Quintessenza, MD, the Chief of Cardiology will have primary responsibility for the Division of Cardiology at JHACH, advancing the clinical service for cardiovascular patients across the healthcare enterprise and developing a training and research program. Since 1977, the Heart Institute has provided comprehensive pediatric and congenital cardiac care as well as pediatric heart transplantation. Our inpatient care facilities include a 22-bed CVICU and 97-bed Level IV NICU. We also have two dedicated cardiac operating rooms, two cardiac catheterization labs with the ability to perform hybrid procedures, and electrophysiology.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess superb clinical skills with additional expertise in a subspecialty area of Pediatric Cardiology, preferably from an academic setting. Leadership experience as a Section or Division Chief and a strong background in academic medicine is desired. The individual should be interested and possess the skills to recruit, develop and mentor cardiology divisional faculty members. A keen interest in teaching and commitment to develop a cardiology fellowship are important attributes for this position. Candidates should be eligible to work in the United States and be BE/BC by the American Board of Medical Specialties. JHACH is very committed to supporting candidates with interest or experience in basic science, clinical and/or translational research and this position comes with Endowed program funding.

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital is a 259-bed teaching hospital, ranked as a U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospital in multiple pediatric specialties (2019-2020). The Heart Institute is comprised of pediatric cardiologists (including fetal cardiologists), a recently hired pediatric cardiovascular surgeon (Dr James Quintessenza), cardiac anesthesiologists, pediatric cardiac intensivists, advanced nurse practitioners and physician assistants. There is close cooperation with maternal-fetal medicine physicians. Qualified candidates will be eligible for an academic appointment at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (academic rank is open and commensurate with experience).

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
