Summary Description    

 

The Department of Psychiatry, Division of Behavioral Medicine, at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City seeks a full time clinical social worker for a clinical faculty Instructor position with competencies that support our tripartite mission of research, teaching, and provision of direct clinical service.

Duties include teaching of residents and medical students, providing direct patient care to psychiatric patients as a member of the faculty practice, managing academic research data, staff, and preparing manuscripts. Successful applicants must have clinical teaching experience in a comparable setting, documented advanced clinical training with a focus on evidence-based treatments for complex trauma in adults, competency with intake and diagnostic assessments, individual and group psychotherapy treatment planning, risk management, and knowledge of empirically-supported interventions required.

 

Applicants must also possess a strong knowledge base in behavioral medicine topics including knowledge of psychophysiology, implementation and management of health behavior intervention protocols, and studies of emotion and emotion regulation. Peer-reviewed publications in these areas of research are highly preferred.

Minimum Degree Required        

 

Candidate must possess an MSW, or equivalent professional degree from a CSWE accredited university/college.

Minimum Qualifications               

 

Candidate must be a licensed clinical social worker and be eligible to practice in the State of New York.

Candidate must possess a minimum of 3-5 years post-training clinical experience, and 1-2 years of experience in research-related activities.

Candidate must provide documentation of completed clinical training in any of the following evidence-based trauma treatment modalities: Dialectical Behavior Therapy training, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Certification, Somatic Experiencing, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy training, or similar.

Preferred Qualifications
